All set

Make sure the engine is switched off and all lights and radio in the vehicle.

Open the hood of your vehicle to check if the car’s battery has any sign of damage or leakage.

If there damage or leak is detected, don’t perform the jump start.

Also, make sure both batteries are of similar voltage or you will end up damaging electrical components in the vehicle.

Besides, engage both parking brakes as well.

Prepare both cars

Bring both cars together nose to nose to make sure the jump cables reach both batteries.

Connect batteries

Take out your jumper cables.

You should never allow the jumper cable’s clamps to touch each other when using.

Connect one red clamp to the positive (+) battery post of the “dead” battery and the other red clamp to the positive (+) post of the good battery.

Also, connect one black-end clamp to the negative (-) post of the good battery.

Carefully connect the other black-end clamp to a metallic part of the vehicles’s engine block.

Repeat the process connecting the black- negative jump leads to the negative terminals, the terminals with the negative symbol below.

Never connect it to the negative (-) post of the “dead” battery. It causes sparking.

Remove and disconnect jump cables

Remove cables in reverse order.

Further, be careful when removing the jump cables because there is voltage running through.

Drive vehicle around to keep battery charging.

Conclusion

If the battery dies soon after jump-starting the vehicle, it’s probably due to a dead alternator not being able to charge the system.
